TOPIC: Auto Helm

Auto Helm 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I just purchased the following Raymarine auto helm components, Type 2 linear drive ( boats up to 33,000 pounds ) x-30 corepack, ST 70 control head and the backbone kit.

I will be hiring someone to install this on the boat.

My question is what part of the steering system on a Catalina 400 is the tiller pin assembly attached to ? If anyone has a picture of this all assembled underdeck could you please email it to 3longisland@gmail.com

Terry,
The tiller arm (is this what you are calling the pin?) is attached directly to the rudder post, just below the quadrant. It is both clamped in place and has a thru-bolt. I believe Edson makes the ones on our boats, and I think I read that they require the EXACT rudder post diameter so that they can custom drill it. The ram (drive) attaches to the arm at a 10" radius from the rudder post. The fixed part of the ram attaches to the underside of the swim platform. Hope this helps.
